The maker

Zen makes lampshades by hand in Bristol. Trained in soft furnishings — apprenticeship, market stall, eight years on other people's sofas — she started Zenobia Shades in 2025 to make pieces in cloth she'd chosen herself.

The work

Five lampshades at a time, hand-pleated and hand-stitched in silk, linen and block-printed cotton. Released in editions of five and seldom replaced. Cloth sourced from mills in Como, Lyon, Suzhou, Yorkshire and Jaipur. Bespoke commissions are designed in a thirty-minute Zoom conversation by appointment.
